Wayk is one of the strongest apps in this category and its ratings say so: 4.8 stars from about 18,000 people. If it is working for you, this page is not trying to move you. It is for the specific reasons people go looking for something else, and each reason has a different right answer.

“I have to subscribe before I can set one alarm”

This is the most common one, and it comes straight from Wayk’s own listing: under a SUBSCRIPTION REQUIRED heading it states that an active Wayk Pro subscription is required to set alarms and use missions after setup. You are asked to pay before you find out whether the missions wake you.

Go to: Mornio, whose free tier runs one protected alarm indefinitely and whose three Protected Mornings unlock everything with no card. Apple’s Clock, which costs nothing but has no mission and no follow-up check. Alarmy, which has a free tier, if you can live with the trade in the next paragraph.

Know before you go: Alarmy’s listing carries Apple’s “Contains Advertising” note and declares Location, Identifiers and Usage Data under tracking. Free is not the same as free of cost.

“$9.99 a month is a lot for an alarm clock”

Before switching, check something: Wayk lists yearly tiers at $19.99, $29.99 and $59.99 alongside the $9.99 monthly. If you are on monthly and intend to keep the app, moving to an annual tier inside iOS Settings usually saves more than changing app. Monthly runs to about $119.88 across a year against $19.99 at the lowest listed annual tier.

Go to, if you still want out: SuperAlarm, whose lowest listed annual tier is $14.99, or Kiwake at $14.99 a year. Mornio at $7.99 monthly is cheaper per month than Wayk, though its $29.99 yearly is dearer than Wayk’s lowest annual tier.

Know before you go: SuperAlarm sells ad removal as a separate $2.99 monthly purchase, and lists weekly tiers that cost far more across a year. Kiwake’s last published version is dated 17 April 2021.

“I do the mission, then get back into bed”

This is the failure that mission variety cannot fix, and it is worth being precise about why. A mission ends. The moment it ends, you are a person standing in a room at 6am with permission to lie down. Pushups do not change that, and neither does scanning a barcode.

What changes it is something that asks again after the alarm is off. Wayk’s listing describes streaks and morning insights, which work across days rather than inside the ten minutes that actually decide your morning; it does not describe a check a few minutes after dismissal.

Go to: Mornio, which is built around exactly this. Its stay-awake check fires 2, 3, 5 or 10 minutes after you dismiss the alarm, and if you do not respond the alarm restarts. SuperAlarm also has a wake up check. Alarmy has one on its premium tier.

“275 MB for an alarm clock”

Wayk is 275.7 MB. That is normal for this category rather than unusual: Alarmy is 233.4 MB and SuperAlarm is 204.6 MB. But if you are managing storage on a full phone it is a real complaint.

Go to: Mornio at 6.9 MB, or Apple’s Clock, which is already installed.

“I don’t want my alarm collecting data”

Fairness first: Wayk declares only Usage Data under Data Used to Track You, which is one of the lighter declarations in this category. It is nothing like Alarmy’s or SuperAlarm’s, both of which declare Location and Identifiers as well.

Go to: Mornio or Nuj, which both declared nothing at all under that heading when we checked. Mornio also has no account, and the code you register is stored on the device as a one-way hash plus a label rather than as a readable value.

“I want more missions, not fewer”

Then say plainly: Mornio is a downgrade for you. It has one mission, the QR or barcode scan. No pushups, no photo, no maths, no object hunt.

Go to: Alarmy, which has the widest mission set in the category and roughly 240,000 US ratings at 4.8 stars, on iOS 16 and later. Or SuperAlarm, with seven mission types on iOS 17. You would be accepting ads and heavier tracking in both cases, so it is a lateral move rather than a clean win.

One row on that table is ours to own and the rest are not. Mornio is the newest app here with the smallest review base and the harshest device requirement. What it does that the others do not is come back after you have already turned it off.
