Mornio is an iPhone alarm for one specific failure: you hear the alarm, you turn it off, and you wake up an hour later with no memory of having turned it off.
Why it exists
Almost every alarm ever made treats dismissal as success. The noise stops and the job is considered done. But dismissing an alarm takes almost no wakefulness, and the ten minutes afterwards are when most oversleeping actually happens.
So Mornio does two things a normal alarm does not. It refuses to stop until you scan a specific code you registered, which lives across the room. Then, a few minutes later, it checks again to confirm you stayed up.
What we decided not to build
This says more about the product than a feature list would:
- No accounts. An alarm needs a time, not an identity.
- No sleep tracking. A different product. Sleep Cycle does it better.
- No streaks or scores. For some people a streak is pressure rather than motivation.
- No ads. An advert between you and turning off a 6 a.m. alarm is indefensible.
- No custom alarm tones. We tested them and they stopped after a few seconds while the system tone kept ringing, so we chose the one that keeps making noise.
- No notification fallback for older iOS. That is the version a Focus mode can silence. It costs us every user below iOS 26.1, and we still think it was right.
Who makes it
Mornio is built by an independent developer and published on the App Store. There is no parent company, no venture funding and no advertising business. It is supported entirely by the Mornio Pro subscription, which is the only thing it ever asks of you.
How we write about competitors
We publish comparison guides covering other iPhone alarm apps, which is obviously self-interested. So the rules are fixed and stated on every page:
- Every competitor fact comes from that app’s own App Store listing, is dated, and is linked.
- Every comparison names where the competitor beats Mornio.
- Where a listing is silent, we write “not stated” rather than claiming a feature is missing.
- Mornio’s iOS 26.1 requirement is stated as a real limitation, not buried.
- No invented ratings, no fabricated test results, and no self-authored reviews presented as independent.
Several of those pages tell readers to buy something else, or nothing at all. That is deliberate. A comparison you cannot trust is worth nothing.
What Mornio does not claim
It reduces the risk of oversleeping. It cannot guarantee you will wake up, it is not a medical device, and it will not compensate for chronic sleep deprivation. For a morning you genuinely cannot miss, we recommend a second independent alarm on another device, which is advice against our own commercial interest and still the right advice.
