This is the shortest page on the site to write and the most important one to get right, because it is the single thing most likely to make Mornio the wrong choice for you.
The requirement
| Minimum iOS | 26.1 or later |
|---|---|
| Devices | iPhone only |
| iPad | Not supported |
| Apple Watch | No companion app |
| Mac / Vision Pro | Not supported |
| Android | No version, and none planned |
How to check your iOS version
- Open Settings
- Tap General, then About
- Look at Software Version
To update, go to Settings → General → Software Update. If iOS 26.1 is not offered there, your iPhone is not capable of running it and no amount of waiting will change that.
Why the requirement is so strict
Mornio's alarm is built entirely on AlarmKit, the framework Apple introduced in iOS 26 that lets a third-party app schedule a real system alarm. That is what allows Mornio to sound through Silent mode, through Focus modes and on a locked screen, with a full-screen alert.
Before AlarmKit, third-party alarms relied on notifications, which a Focus mode could suppress and which historically could fail to fire after a restart or an app update. We decided not to ship that version at all, rather than shipping an alarm that might be silenced by a setting the user forgot about.
That is a genuine trade and it costs us a large number of potential users. We think it is the right call for an app whose only job is to ring, but you should know it is the reason, rather than an arbitrary cut-off.
We would rather not exist on your phone than exist as an alarm a Focus mode can silence.
If your iPhone cannot run iOS 26.1
Then Mornio is not an option, and we would rather point you somewhere useful than have you keep looking:
- Alarmy, iOS 16 and later. The most established option, with the widest mission set and roughly 240,000 US ratings. Note it carries Apple's “Contains Advertising” label and declares Location under tracking.
- SuperAlarm, iOS 17 and later. Seven mission types including barcode scanning, plus a wake up check. Sells a separate ad-removal purchase.
- Nuj, iOS 15 and later. Barcode challenge with a get-up deadline and a financial penalty you set.
- Erly, iOS 17.6 and later, if streaks motivate you.
- Apple's own Clock, on any iPhone. Free, and in iOS 26 it supports a custom snooze duration from 1 to 15 minutes. Worth trying before anything else.
Our heavy sleeper guide compares these properly, including their weaknesses.
Will Mornio ever support older iOS, iPad or Android?
Older iOS: no. The alarm depends on a framework that does not exist there, and a notification-based version would be a worse product wearing the same name.
iPad: unlikely. An alarm on a device most people do not keep by the bed solves a different problem.
Apple Watch: possible in principle, since AlarmKit alarms can appear on Apple Watch, but there is no companion app today. Do not buy on the expectation of one.
Android: no. There is no AlarmKit equivalent, and we would rather not ship a version we could not stand behind.
One thing to check after updating
If you have just updated to iOS 26.1 and installed Mornio, the first time you set an alarm iOS will ask permission to schedule alarms. Grant it. If you decline, Mornio cannot schedule anything and the app will appear broken. You can change it later in Settings, and our troubleshooting page covers how.
